What Is Your Role in Life?

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Each one of us is born with a specific role to fulfill in life. Our unique gifts and talents are given to help us fulfill these roles. It is your ikigai or your purpose in life. Think of yourselves as actors or actresses who are commissioned to act a specific role or character in a play or movie. Living our life based on this role will give us a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. But the question is, what is your role in life?

As a general rule, our role is to be our authentic self. However, this is easier said than done. We have been programmed by society to act, feel and think a certain way that most people lose themselves in the process. There are some who are so scared of showing their true selves that they hide behind a persona. As a result, we become unhappy and unsatisfied. Some even get sick. Being unhappy, sick and lost are just some of the signs that we are not aligned with our purpose. To live a happy, healthy and prosperous life; we need to act out the role that we are born to play. But what if you are one of those who are really lost on what their role in life is?

Human Design System

Founded by Ra Uru Hu; the human design is a system that is based on the Chinese ancient divination text dating back 10th to 4th century BC called the I’Ching. Human Design unlocks our code of genetics calculated based on astrology. It is also linked with quantum physics, the Jewish Kaballah and the chakra system.

If you are clueless about who you really are, what your innate gifts and talents are and what you are meant to do in life; the human design system will help you with that. Your human design type and strategy will help you understand yourself better. It will also help you make major decisions in life.

Profile Type

There are 12 profile types in human design. Think of the profile types as the character in the play that you are in. These profile types are represented by the ratio of two numbers from one to six. The first number represents your conscious self while the second number represents your subconscious. Thus, you can either be any of the 12 human design profiles indicated below. Check the Jovian archive to find out what your profile number is.

Your Life’s Work

The first number indicates your conscious personality. It will also give you a clue on what your life’s work should be.

Line 1

The line one is the investigator. If you have this line, you are the type who wants to get to the bottom of things. You investigate, study and research about things that are not clear to you. Before you enter into anything, whether it be a contract, a business or a relationship; you will try to find out everything there is to know about it until you feel safe enough to enter into it.

Your life’s work is to be a creator. You are here on earth to create something new. You can try to improve an existing idea but the main thing is that the new idea or the improved idea is uniquely yours. This is how you express yourself in this world. You need to express your creative self in order to be truly happy. Introducing something new to society is always a challenge because you will be defying the status quo. Thus, you need a lot of courage to do so.

Line 2

People who belong in line 2 are hermits. These are the people that the society calls “anti-social”. This is because hermits want to be alone. They want to do their own things uninterrupted. They work best when left alone. But among the 6 lines, the hermits are the most talented and gifted. They are geniuses in what they do. Unlike the first line where they need to study something first, those in line 2 are naturally experts in their own fields without even taking formal lessons.

The challenge with line 2 people is that they need to look deep within themselves in order to figure out their inner geniuses. If you are a line 2, the technique is to do the things that you love. Follow the things that make you happy. Ditch those things which are hard to do.

Line 3

Being a parent of a line 3 child is always a challenge. This is because line 3 individuals are the explorers. To give an illustration, for example there is a candle. You tell your child not to put their fingers in the flame. The line 3 child will do exactly that as soon as you turn away. It is not because the child is naughty or hard-headed but simply because the child is an explorer.

Line 3 learns through experiencing things for themselves. They are constantly in the trial and error stage. For them there is no such thing as mistakes, just lessons. They need their own space. More importantly, they need their freedom to explore things. Only through exploring will they find their purpose in life.

The lives of line 3 are very colorful. This is because they always yearn for change. They have many interests. They are the most dynamic and adaptable among the lines.

Line 4

If line 2 are introverts, line 4 is the life of the party. They are the networkers and they don’t have problems making friends. Moreover, they have the power to influence people. For them, life is all about people, people and people.

If you are a line 4, their highest expression is about service.

Line 5

Line 5 is the most organized people in all of the lines. They are natural born leaders. People are naturally attracted to them. Other people view them as saviors. They have a knack for solving other people’s problems. If you are looking for the perfect friend, lover, employee and boss. – then line 5 individuals are good candidates. In addition, they are capable of leading large organizations. These people are meant to be seen.

The life work of line 5 is to be a fixer for they are needed by many people. They are here to help and guide others.

Line 6

Line 6 is the role model. Unlike line 5 who are naturally born leaders; line 6 individuals need to undergo three phases in their lives to become role models. In the first phase of their lives; they need to act as line 3. They need to explore life in their first 30 years. This period is characterized by trial and error. The second phase is all about self-reflection. They need to slow down during this phase and take a look at what transpired in their lives and figure out the lessons learned. Once they reach 50 years of age, it is only then when they can take on the role of a role model or a teacher.

By knowing your profile, you will have a general idea on what the storyline of your life is. You will learn to understand yourself better and others too. And from there, you will be able to successfully portray the role that is given to you.
