Cherish Your Loved Ones While You Still Can

Cherish your loved ones while you still can.

It was just a typical day in my life. I went through my morning and afternoon routines without a glitch. Little did I know that my whole world would crumble right in front of me that day.

I lost the greatest love of my life that night in a parking lot accident. He just got out of the car to grab some coffee when a drunk driver hit the pavement. This resulted in multiple-car collisions. Just like that, I have lost too many in a single night – my love, my fiancé, best friend, my heart and soul, my joy and happiness and every bit of hope I had left. He could have been the father of my children.

I never saw that day coming. Never in my wildest dreams did I even think of the possibility that one day we would separate just like that. Fate played a cruel trick on us. We were not even given a chance to say a proper goodbye to one another.

If there is one thing that I’ve learned through all this, it is a fact that death may come unexpectedly. It comes like a thief in the night. And when it does, there is nothing that you can do except be strong. Although we can never be truly ready for the passing of a loved one, we can cherish the people that we love right now before it is too late. Don’t end up regretting like I did.

It has been a little more than two years since that fateful night. Up until now, my mind and my heart would always think about him. I could not help but think of things that I wish I could have done differently.

They said that time heals all wounds. One day, this feeling of sadness and emptiness will gradually go away. And maybe, I can be happy again someday. For the time being, I find comfort in the thought that, as cliche as it may sound, my departed loved one is in a better place now.

My love, wherever you are, I know you are already at peace. I still miss you and think about you every breathing second ? You will forever be in my heart. I love you so much, babe ❤

This is the story narrated by a friend, Louise Bianca Liwag. She lost her beloved in a multi-vehicle collision parking lot accident. They have been in a relationship for almost six years and were already planning to get married when the accident happened.

Let her story serve as a lesson and a reminder for everyone that life is short and unpredictable. No one knows what will happen tomorrow. Thus, it is better to live and enjoy every moment with your loved ones so that there will be no regret later on.

Here are five things that you can do now to show your beloved how much you care:

1. Tell Them How Much They Mean to You

It is not enough that you show them how much they mean to you. You have to tell them too. Tell them how much you value them. A simple phone call or even a text message will do. Say “I love You” as often as you can.

2. Never Take Them For Granted

Appreciate your relationships right now.  Oftentimes, we tend to take for granted people who are always there for us when we need them. Bear in mind that someday they might not be there. So, no matter how busy you are, make sure to spend quality time with the people who are dear to you because you will never know what will happen tomorrow.

3. Hug Them as Often as You Can

How many times have you hugged your spouse, your children, your parents, your friends and those people who are dear to you? It only takes a second or two but it is a sure way to let the other person feel that he/she is important to you.

4. Forgive Them

It is normal for people who love one another to hurt each other, although unintentional. Parents and children fight, lovers quarrel and even friends argue. But, life is too short to be wasting time fighting or hating one another. Although it is not easy, learn to forgive your loved ones. Don’t let a day pass by without settling your differences.

5. Live Everyday as If It is Your Last

Realize that life is short. Don’t postpone what you can do today for tomorrow especially when it comes to your relationships. Kiss your loved ones before going to bed or before leaving. Make every moment count.

Remember to cherish your loved ones while you still can. Make that your first step towards building a happy and healthy relationship with the people who are dear to you.
